I’ve rounded up what I’ve found to be the best meal prep containers.
Once you get into the swing of meal prepping, it will change your life. Gone are the days of grazing while hunting around for something to eat. You’ll no longer think, “I’m hungry, but what do I want???” While you are out running errands, you won’t be tempted by the drive-thru. When your kids start whining about being hungry, you won’t have to stop everything to help them.
Instead nutritious, delicious, real food is readily available in perfectly packed, ready-to-go containers you prepped yourself!
A successful meal prep session depends on the meal prep containers you buy. You’ll want to invest in containers that are safe, durable and convenient.
By safe containers I mean containers that are free from BPA. BPA has been linked to mammary and prostate cancer, genital defects in males, early onset of puberty in females, obesity and has even been linked to behavior problems such as attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder.
In addition to being safe, containers that are dishwasher safe and store easily in the fridge are also imperative to a successful meal prep.
What I’ve found to work is a combination of the following meal prep containers:
STAINLESS STEEL LUNCH CONTAINERS
By far my favorite meal prep container is a stainless steel lunch container. I recommend you go with something like the LunchBots Uno Stainless Steel Food Container. Stainless steel is durable, portable, and dishwasher safe.
Another bonus to stainless steel is it is lightweight and won’t shatter like glass or crack like plastic.
I prefer a single box – not one that is divided. The single box allows you to nest smaller containers inside. This gives you lots of versatility in your meal prep planning.
Speaking of smaller containers, having a set of Tiny Leak Proof Dips Condiment Containers means you can safely transport salad dressings and toppings without spillage.
Compared to plastic, you may find stainless steel expensive. However, I’ve had my set for over 6 years and they are still going strong. Invest in quality containers and you’ll find you don’t ever have to replace them.
When it comes to meal prep containers, mason jars are everything.
SILICONE BAKING CUPS
I’ve found an inexpensive way to add dividers to my stainless steel containers is to use Reusable Silicone Baking Cups. They work great for small portions of nuts, granola, dips, and nut butters. Plus, their festive colors just make snack time that little bit more fun.
REUSABLE STORAGE BAGS
Another great, inexpensive meal prep container are reusable storage bags.
I have the BlueAvocado Re-Zip Seal Reusable Storage Bag Kit. They are the perfect reuseable substitute for ziplock bags.
Every week I brew a pitcher of the fat-burning, antioxidant green tea. It’s so easy to dispense from my classic Mason Jar Beverage Dispenser.
While I use it for my green tea, it’s also a great way to have rainbow citrus water ready for daily sipping.
REUSABLE FOOD POUCHES
Making your own squeezable applesauce or yogurt pouches can be a huge time saver. Not to mention, you control the ingredients. (Some yogurt tubes have high fructose corn syrup, potassium sorbate, carrageenan, red 40, and blue 1. YUCK)
If you prefer the convenience of a squeezable to a cup and spoon, definitely invest in some of these.
Do you have a meal prep container that works great for you? I’d love to hear about it.
