This steamed broccoli with orange sauce recipe is perfect for anyone who knows they should eat more broccoli, but they don’t love the taste.
The orange sauce is easy to make and provides a bright, sweet flavor to this broccoli dish.
When my girls were little, my pediatrician told me to get as many fruits and vegetables into my kids as possible.
He then said – if they refuse the fruits and vegetables you serve, find ways to make it taste good.
So “make things taste good” became my go-to way to help them fall in love with vegetables.
Although I like my broccoli plain, I used butter, salt, and sauces to get my girls to start eating their veggies.

Steamed Broccoli with Orange Sauce Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 heads broccoli cut into spears
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 cup fresh orange juice divided
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon orange zest
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
Instructions

Steam broccoli. In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and 1/2 cup orange juice. Once blended, add the rest of the orange juice, lemon juice orange zest, thyme, mustard, and pepper. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Add orange juice mixture. Cook over medium heat until thickened. Toss with broccoli.
