Ready to try a homemade natural eye makeup remover that works? I’ve got the best recipe.
Making your own natural eye makeup remover is so simple and requires very few ingredients.
This best part about this formula is that IT WORKS!
I’ve tried it on several different types of mascara – all with fantastic results!
The first thing you’ll need is distilled water. If you don’t have distilled water, you will need to bring tap water to the boiling point then allow it to cool before proceeding.
Please do not skip this step. You’re dealing with your eyes, so it’s important to start with sterile ingredients.
Next, you need a carrier oil. I personally use avocado oil. (I also use avocado oil to get rid of my red bumps)
Avocado oil is perfect for the eye area because it has a natural concentration of both Vitamins A and E. This makes it a great choice for dry, dehydrated and mature skin.
Next, you need to pick a baby shampoo.
I’ve tested this formula with both Burt’s Bees Tear Free Shampoo and BeautyCounterKids Nice Do Shampoo.
The Burt’s Bee shampoo is actually a 3 on the EWG Skin Deep database. However, I like that it is tear free.
The Nice Do shampoo is actually a 1 – meaning it is the safest formulation you can buy. However, it is not a tear free formula. The thing I do like about it is the scent. So there’s that.
Both baby shampoos worked great. You’ll need to decide what is most important to you.
NATURAL EYE MAKEUP REMOVER
2 Tablespoons Baby Shampoo
1 Tablespoon Avocado Oil
1 Cup Distilled Water
Combine all ingredients in a soap dispenser.
To Use: Shake ingredients before each use. Apply to a washcloth and then apply to eye area. Rinse off immediately.
I use these baby soft washcloths to wipe off my eye make-up.
These cloths are so soft – if they made a giant sized onesie out of this material – I would wear it.
Not. Even. Kidding.
Do they get stained by the mascara? Kinda. Really, it depends on your brand of mascara.
The washcloths are essentially re-useable eye makeup remover pads. I use them then toss in the laundry. It’s another way I can be green and save money.
Give this natural eye makeup remover and try – I’d love to know how it works for you.

Janelle
I’m dealing with itchy eyelids and they become very red and swollen. I stopped using eyeshadow went to eye dr got a steroid ointment that clears it up, but within a week start to come back. Eyelids become dry, itchy and red. I feel like when I take my eye make up off that is what is irritating them. I’m a hair stylist and had to stop using sprays of any kind around me , but still an issue. With all this being said should I use the Burt’s bees or the beauty counter baby shampoo?
Thanks so much for sharing and welcome any other advice.

Hi Janelle, I’m so sorry to hear you’re having trouble with your eyelids and eye make-up remover. Some over the counter removers can be quite irritating! If you can get the Beauty Counter baby shampoo, I would start there. Otherwise, pick up some Burt’s Bees and maybe just try it on one eye to test it. Good luck! Andrea
Amanda
I love your recipe! Baby shampoo is brilliant! Before I make it, wondering if I can use organic Jojoba oil instead of avocado oil? Thanks!
