A gratitude list is healthy habit #2. Did you miss healthy habit #1?
About 3 years ago, I went to the DMV to pick up our new license plate.
When I got the plates, I noticed they had given us plates where the last three numbers were 333.
Triple digits! Not only was that going to make remembering the license plate so much easier, but it was also my favorite number.
But here’s the crazy thing:
Ever since I noticed the triple digits on the license plate, I started seeing triple digits everywhere!
I’d pick up my phone and see it was 5:55.
I’d look down at my book page number and I’d be on page 111.
What was even happening, I wondered?
Those triple numbers? They were always present in my life, I just started noticing them.
The same principle applies to a gratitude list.
“A grateful heart is a magnet for miracles.”
I have no idea who originally said that, but since I’ve started to keep a gratitude list, I have found it to be 100% true.
Not only have I experienced a personal transformation since keeping a gratitude list, but there are scientific studies that show giving thanks has a transformative effect on our lives.
Grateful people have lower levels of depression, greater satisfaction in their relationships, and they even sleep better.
If you are looking for a simple way to improve your personal health, taking 5 minutes each day to write out 5 things you are grateful for is a great place to start.
Why should you write out your list?
Writing not only is an action step, but it forms what is called the triple imprint.
The triple imprint means, you think it in your mind, you write it with your hand, and you see it with your eyes. There are three factors at work.
Writing your list also propels you forward. It is a concrete and positive movement towards achieving the desired outcome.
Try it for only 5 days. You can do anything for 5 days!
For the next 5 days, upon waking, take a minute to write down 5 things for which you are grateful.
Once you have done it for 5 days, reflect on your list. How does it make you feel?
Now, try it for 30 days.
You’ll be amazed how once you start looking for things to be grateful for, they just keep popping up – just like I can’t stop seeing triple digits ever since I got our license plate.
