How do you save on Parmesan cheese?
Parmesan cheese can be a really expensive ingredient. But for dishes like my Spinach Pesto, I really like a good quality Parmesan cheese. Buying Parmesan cheese in bulk at Costco is the cheapest way to purchase it. There are actually two different products sold at Costco.
Parmesan Reggiano is actual Parmesan cheese. At $14.99 for only 1 lb it is still a really expensive ingredient ~ although cheaper than buying a wedge at the store. However, if you hunt around the cases a little bit you’ll find another Parmesan ~ Parmesan Romano.
Hello 2 pounds of cheese for only $9.59! Parmesan Romano is a mix of Parmesan Reggiano cheese and Romano Porcino cheese. The taste difference is slight and when added to recipes, you shouldn’t notice a taste difference at all (unless you are some super sensitive Parmesan taster!)
Have you ever noticed this price difference at your Costco?
