Uh, no, I haven’t heard of this. But I think I’ll give it a try this year, and I’m going to hint to the family that I would LOVE for my own gifts to be wrapped in cloth. I’ve just started sewing again and the thought of multi-patterned fabric scraps makes my heart go pitter-patter!

Anne, I’m glad you like the cloth wrapping! I never considered that it could be a really great way to also give the recipient some fabric they could then use on sewing projects. Brilliant! Andrea

Last year, I picked up cloth napkins & other linens at Goodwill (during a half price sale) and a church thrift store, and made reusable cloth gift bags. Sew 2 napkins into a pouch, tie with a nice ribbon & some tiny pine cones (we had a tree that dropped tiny cones) or Christmas trinkets (also from thrift stores). I added a tag marking them “please re-use/re-gift” in hopes they will continue to have a useful life.

Amy, I love the idea of a tag asking for reuse! We’ve always saved all our gift bags and tissue to reuse. I remember being horrified when watching a friend unwrap her baby shower gifts and she was wadding up the tissue and tossing it in a garbage bag. I would hope the reaction would be different with a homemade bag….but you never know! Andrea
