Here’s your guide to fade age spots naturally.
Although the best way to fade age spots naturally is to prevent them in the first place, the sad truth is most age spots formed when we were younger and less concerned about permanent sun damage.
I don’t know about you, but I definitely laid out to get tan and often ended up burnt. Not only was it painful (wish I had known about this DIY all natural sunburn treatment), but I’m now seeing the aging effects the sun had on my skin.
Step one to ending age spots is to avoid sun exposure as much as possible. Cover up, wear a hat, and slather on a natural sunscreen (zinc oxide is the bomb!) to aide in getting rid of age spots.
The good news is, for those spots that have already appeared on your body or your face, there are some effective home remedies that will help you fade your age spots naturally.
Fade Age Spots Naturally
1. Fresh Lemon
Apply freshly squeezed lemon juice directly to the spots you wish to fade. The mild acid from the lemon will work over time to slough off the skin’s outer layer which diminishes the appearance of age spots. Apply the juice twice daily.
2. Aloe Vera Gel
While you can use prepared aloe vera gel, this home remedy works best when you use the gel directly from the cutting of an aloe vera plant. Apply the gel once per day to slough off old cells and replace them with new ones. Apply gel daily.
3. Buttermilk
Did you know buttermilk has natural lactic acid that works to gently exfoliate skin? Try dabbing it on and allowing to dry before showering to naturally fade age spots.
4. Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple Cider Vinegar is another natural way to turn over skin cells to reveal fresh, healthy skin. Apply with a cotton ball and allow to dry on the skin.
5. Honey and Yogurt
Blend together 1 teaspoon raw honey and 1 teaspoon plain yogurt to create a paste. This paste will act as a natural bleach to help fade your age spots. Apply to your age spots and allow to dry on the skin. Leave on for at least 30 minutes before rinsing off. Do this once daily.
6. Vitamin E
As you start to fade your age spots, you will want to prevent new age spots from forming. Apply vitamin E to your skin directly AFTER sun exposure. Vitamin E helps prevent age spots by neutralizing skin-damaging free radicals.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What if there is stinging?
Most of these remedies are going to work because they have a slightly acidic property. The acid works to slough off dead cells, and this can result in stinging. If this bothers you, simply wash off right away and try one of the other treatments.
The honey and yogurt treatment will be the most mild of the 6 listed here. It is a good starting place if you have extra sensitive skin. Just make sure you are using a good quality raw honey.
