Grain-Free Cauliflower Tabbouleh Salad {Paleo, Raw and Vegan too!}

Cauliflower Tabbouleh Salad

I had this Cauliflower Tabbouleh Salad at a potluck over the weekend and loved it so much I went out the next day to buy the ingredients and try to replicate it for myself.

Cauliflower is the perfect substitute for barley in this salad. Chopping it in the food processor or a blender, it gets to the same size and consistency of barley.

But that’s not the only brilliant part to this salad.

Instead of using the traditional tabbouleh ingredient parsley, this recipe uses kale.

Using a superfood makes this salad super good.

Don’t be afraid of the whole jalapeno in this recipe. Scrape the seeds out to remove most of the heat without sacrificing the flavor.

Now as for the red onion, I like the recipe with the whole onion.

If you aren’t a big onion fan. Start with half an onion. You can always change your mind and add more.

Grain-Free Cauliflower Tabbouleh Salad {Paleo, Raw and Vegan too!}

  • 1 head cauliflower
  • 1 5 oz package organic baby kale
  • 15 mint leaves
  • 1 jalapeno
  • 1 red onion
  • 1/2 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1/4 cup white wine vinegar
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • salt to taste

  1. Remove cauliflower from stem. Chop into big chunks before putting in work bowl of food processor. Pulse until cauliflower resembles a course grain.
  2. Scrape cauliflower into a large bowl.
  3. Next, add kale, mint, jalapeno, and red onion to the food processor. Process until all ingredients are finely chopped.
  4. Stir the kale mixture into the cauliflower mixture.
  5. Gently fold in cherry tomatoes.
  6. Whisk together the oil and vinegar and toss with salad. Add salt to taste.

Bon appetit!

3 Tricks to Try to Save at Amazon

3 Tricks to Save at Amazon

Use these tricks to saving even more when you order from Amazon.

Do you like shopping Amazon? Me too! I love the convenience and the prices.

But how do you know if you are always getting the best prices?

I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve that I use every time I shop Amazon. By using these tricks, I know I get the best prices at Amazon every time I shop there.

Here are your Tricks to Try to Save More Money at Amazon:

1. Use Two Browsers to Browse Prices.

Did you know that Amazon can have two different prices on a product – one for a customer that is logged in, and one that is not?

Here’s how this savings trick works:

        1. Log into your Amazon account like you normally would do when shopping on  Find the product you want to purchase and take note of the price.
        2. Open a separate browser. (ie- if you normally use Chrome, open up Firefox or Internet Explorer). You will NOT be logged into your account on this browser.
        3. Make sure you have the cookies cleared in the second browser.
        4. Now open up and search for the same product and compare prices.

You may not find a difference in prices. However, Amazon has been known to charge it’s logged in customers MORE for a product because they know you already shop there and will probably pay it.

By using this trick you can make sure you always get the best deals.

2. Add What You Need to Your Cart – But Don’t Buy It… YET.

Have you ever noticed that if you leave something in your cart and then walk away, Amazon will start sending you emails to entice you to buy?

I did this recently with a kitchen faucet. I was having trouble committing to the purchase. I put the item in my cart and then left it there.

The next day, Amazon emailed me about faucets. They were NOT the same faucet I was looking at, but it was for a selection that was actually better priced.

I ended up picking a faucet from the email Amazon sent me and am very happy with my purchase.

While there is no guarantee that Amazon will send you a money saving email, if you don’t have to make a purchase right away, you may want to add an item to your cart, walk away, and see what happens over the next few days.

3. Use Price Jump has come out with a cool new tool called Price Jump. Price Jump will search it’s database and instantly compare Amazon product prices to prices around the web to ensure that you are getting the best deal when shopping on Amazon.

I like this tool because if the best price is at Amazon, they will tell you. But if it can be purchased cheaper elsewhere, it will tell you that to!

DIY: Natural Disinfectant Spray (Like Lysol But Homemade!)

Natural Disinfecting Spray Like Lysol but made from all natural ingredients including essential oils

There is a nasty new virus floating around called enterovirus D68. This virus outbreak has sent hundreds of children to the hospital with respiratory problems.

My oldest daughter has been hospitalized with respiratory issues before and it is scary. When respiratory viruses start circulating, I go into protective, mama bear mode. I arm myself with disinfectant and CLEAN ALL THE THINGS!!!!

What steps should we all take to keep our homes healthy?

1. Institute mandatory hand washing! This is the number one recommendation of the Center for Disease Control. It is inexpensive and easy. Stay vigilante and send everyone straight from the front door to the sink with instructions to wash up. If you are out and about, whip up all natural hand sanitizer to carry with you and use it.

2. Disinfect Surfaces – especially doorknobs. Cleaning your doorknobs, refrigerator handles, faucets, and toilet handles with a disinfecting spray can help guard your family against viruses.

If you are trying to run an all natural household, what are your options for safe, non-toxic disinfecting?

Here’s what you will need to make your own Natural Disinfectant Spray Like Lysol but Homemade:

The GBG List of 3: Downton Abbey Tea, Lavender Laundry, Calm

List of 3

The GBG List of 3. Three things I love. Three things I want to share.

downton abbey tea tins
Do you just love Downton Abbey? Me too!

Have you seen that they have come out with a line of Downton Abbey teas?

I could just die. It’s two of my favorite things combined.

But I’m torn. Do I brew a cup of Bates’ Brambleberry Tea to sip on during the first episode of the new season or should I brew a cup of Lady Cora’s Evening Tea? GAH!

(The new season airs January 4th, 2015 oh by the way!)

They also have Downton Abbey tea gift sets. Think Christmas gifts. Any Downton Abbey fan would be delighted by these teas.

Method Lavender Laundry Detergent

While I have bought Method Free & Clear on many an occasion, I had never purchased the Method Lavender Cedar scent.

The smell is AMAZING!

I almost look forward to folding the laundry. Almost.

If you haven’t given it a try, I can’t recommend it enough. Anything that makes a chore more pleasant gets my two thumbs-up.

Calm magnesium

Do you have trouble sleeping? What about the week before your period?

I’ve got a solution you really must try.

CALM. It’s a magnesium supplement. The lemon raspberry flavor is my favorite.

What does this have to do with sleep?

“Scientific studies suggest that magnesium supplements may help relieve symptoms associated with PMS, particularly bloating, insomnia, leg swelling, weight gain, and breast tenderness.” Read more here.

Study’s have also shown that between 65 and 71% of Americans are magnesium deficient. Which makes taking a supplement a good idea for most people.

Since I’ve started taking CALM (3 months now) I have definitely slept better, and as an added bonus, I’m more regular. (sorry if that is TMI)

The reason I selected CALM is it is non-gmo and free of preservatives, artificial color or flavor.

Do you take a magnesium supplement? Have a laundry product I need to try? What’s making you happy?

If you’d like to try either the Method Lavender Cedar or the CALM, or even both, I ordered both through Vitacost. If you shop through this link, you can get $10 off your $30 order.

How Much Juice Comes From One Lemon?

Juice One Lemon

Have you ever had a recipe call for “the juice from one lemon”?

How much juice comes from one lemon? What if you don’t have a lemon, but have lemon juice? How much lemon juice could you substitute?

Here’s your answer:

One Lemon yields 3 Tablespoons of juice

Now, is every lemon going to yield an exact 3 tablespoons? Not so much. But as a general rule, that is what a recipe means when it says “the juice from one lemon”.

Upcycled Glass Jars Projects

Upcycled Glass Jar Projects

I have a complete addiction to glass jars. Not only do I have scores of canning jars, but often times I’ll buy a product simply because I want the glass jar once it is gone! (like these frappacino ones or these candle jars where I remove the wax ).

There are so many creative ways to use glass jars. I wanted to share a few of my favorite upcycled glass jars projects with you.
